As part of the university’s comprehensive cost-savings efforts, individual printers are being phased out in favor of utilizing the centralized multi-function printers (MFPs). A huge fleet of local printers have an overall higher cost to the university when factoring in the cost of the printers, electricity, printer supplies, and support, so we are only installing new local printers where a specialized need can be identified. The IT Help Desk can assist you with connecting your office computer to the nearest MFP. If there is a specialized need not being met by the MFP, we would be happy to reassess this request to see if an exception to this initiative can be made. Exceptions are available to persons with disabilities by requesting this accommodation through Human Resources.
As a reminder, all technology purchases must be made through the Office of Information Technology. The purchase of any technology with your university P-Card is not permitted under the Finance Office guidelines for P-Card use. Employees should not circumvent the printing policy by purchasing printers through their department.
Current individual printers are “grandfathered” and will not be retired until they break or become obsolete; they will not be replaced once retired.
