Taking Attendance in Canvas

  1. Log onto Canvas (https://susqu.instructure.com) using your SU Account
  2. Click on ‘Attendance’ in your Course Navigation Menu


    ***NOTE: You may have to activate this feature in your settings. Go to the navigation tab, click and drag Attendance to your list. (This is the list that is visible to students.) Click ‘Save’***
     
  3. You have two views, List and Class. You can switch between these views in the top right corner of the screen.
  4. Class View:
    In this view you have a virtual seating chart. If using this view, set it up to mirror your classroom, and place students in their assigned seat.

     
  5. List View: 
    In this view, click on each student and indicate whether they are present, absent or tardy.


    *** By using the attendance feature in Canvas, you can automatically calculate it into your students final grade.***
    Create an assignment.
    a) assign a point value
    b) assign it to the ‘Attendance’ group
    c) display grade as points or percentage
    d) assign an external tool as the submission type.
        Arrow: Click the ‘Find’ button to search a listing of external tools and click ‘Attendance.’
