Create Groups Manually

  1. Log in to Canvas and click on your course.
  2. In your course, click on People in the left hand menu.

     
  3.  In the new window, click on New Group Set towards the top of the page.

     
  4. In the New Group Set section, click on + Groups in the upper right hand corner.
  5. In the pop up window, A) type the name of the group, then B) click on the up or down to set the number of students in the group (optional), last, C) click on Save.
  6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 for each group that you wish to create.

Manually Assign Students to Groups

  1. After creating groups, A) click on the six dots to the left of a student’ name and then drag the block into the appropriate group. Or, B) click on the + icon to the right of a students’ name and then click on the appropriate group name from the drop down menu.

     
  2. The student’s name will then appear in the appropriate group. Repeat step 1 for all the students that you wish to place into groups.
