Jabber Installation, Sign In, and Usage
Cisco Jabber (aka SoftPhone) is a tool that can be utilized to answer campus phones through your computer. In the event of working off-campus, you will be able to answer any lines that are connected to your university office phone without having to forward it to another number. The following instructions are for installing Jabber to any computer (university-owned or home computer).
Prerequisites:
- You must install and connect to GlobalProtect VPN if you are not on the campus network.
- Your account must be configured for Jabber access. If access has not been requested you will not be able to sign into Jabber, please email helpdesk@susqu.edu to do so.
Installation:
- Open Self Service in Dock

- Search Cisco Jabber (Soft Phone)

- Click Install

Signing In:
- Open Jabber. Double-click the Jabber icon on your Task Bar, from your Desktop, or search from start menu
- A pop up will appear, click Sign In
- Your username should automatically be populated. You should not have the @susqu.edu
- Enter your SU password and click Sign In

***You may have a Certificate window pop up saying: “Certificate not valid. Your computer cannot confirm the identity of this server…” if so, click Accept.
- This window may appear multiple times, continue to click Accept. It will usually stop appearing after about 5 times of clicking Accept.
Using Jabber:
- After signing in, the Jabber window will appear
- To use your computer to answer phone calls, you MUST change the Device for calls setting
- Click the small green phone icon at the bottom of the window (circled in red in the image below)

- Click the drop-down menu under Device for calls
- Choose Use my computer
- Your phone calls will now ring and can be answered on your computer. This setting should be selected when away from your phone(s).
- If you have the ability to answer multiple phone lines, you will see all of them appear at the bottom of the window. Each one will ring automatically, but you may choose which one you would like to call from in the drop-down menu
Helpful Tips
Forwarding a Line
- Select the green computer icon next to your extension number near the bottom
- Select the drop-down menu under Forward Calls
- If applicable, select the line you wish to forward (if you have multiple lines on your account)
- Select Voicemail to forward to the voicemail box or select New number to enter any phone number you wish
Dialing Out
- Select the Phone Icon on the left side panel
- Select the keypad icon to the left of the search bar
- Enter the number you wish to dial, be sure to dial 9 first and then the full number (with country code, usually 1 unless international)
Having issues?
- Be sure you have VPN installed and it is fully connected while off-campus
- If you can't sign in, be sure that a Jabber account has been properly configured for you. Reach out to the Help Desk if you aren't sure or if it hasn't been requested yet
