Effective February 12, 2024, IT removed local administrator rights from all Susquehanna University-owned computers and devices in order to maintain compliance with our cyber liability insurance provider. This means that SU employees must request any additional software to be installed on university computers, or to make any configuration changes that are restricted to administrators only.
Below, you will find some of the commonly asked questions.
Why did IT make this change?
This change was enacted as a proactive step in order to prevent malware, unauthorized access, and other security threats from affecting the university network and devices. This is part of our ongoing effort to enhance the security and integrity of our campus network.
Can I install any software on my own?
Select software titles are available through the SU Self Service portal. Self Service contains some of the most commonly used and requested software titles and can install and update them without the need to contact IT.
For more information and to see a full list of available software, please refer to this Knowledge Base article:

What if I need to request the installation software not already installed on my computer or in Self Service?
If you need additional software to be installed, you will need to submit a request to the IT Help Desk to review and complete the installation. You can make this request by either emailing helpdesk@susqu.edu, calling (570)-372-4502, or by stopping by the Help Desk located in the lower level of Seibert Hall.
Your request should include the name of the software, the link to the installer, whether or not you have a license for the software, and the reason it is needed.
Please allow a minimum of 4 business hours for our team to review the request.
Once our team reviews and approves the request, the IT Help Desk will reach out to you to schedule an installation appointment. These appointments can be completed either on-site or remotely.
